Orthophoto maps

An orthophoto map is made from aerial photographs with specialized computer programs intended for this purpose.

An orthophoto is an image of the earth's surface, for which all distortions that occur in the scene at the time of photography as a result of the influence of the slope and terrain of the scene have been eliminated.

For the entire territory of Latvia, orthophoto maps are prepared in TIFF format according to the resolution determined during the aerial photography period.

For the territory of Latvia, aerial photography and preparation of an orthophoto map is carried out in accordance with the LGIA strategy. Currently, a period of 3 years is set for the renewal of the orthophoto card.

Available orthophoto maps by preparation cycles:

Orthophoto maps of the 8th cycle (2022 - 2024)
Orthophoto maps of the 7th cycle (2019 - 2021)
Orthophoto maps of the 6th cycle (2016 - 2018)
Orthophoto maps of the 5th cycle (2013 - 2015)
Orthophoto maps of the 4th cycle (2010 - 2011)
Orthophoto maps of the 3rd cycle (2007 - 2008)
Orthophoto maps of the 2nd cycle (2003 - 2005)
Orthophoto maps of the 1st cycle (1994 - 1999)
High-resolution orthophoto maps of Latvian cities and densely populated areas (1994 - 2002)
Orthophoto maps are made according to a certain nomenclature of map sheets.

Orthophoto maps of Latvia of the 1st and 2nd cycle of aerial photography are prepared in the Latvian coordinate system LKS-92 TM according to the division of TKS-93 map sheets (scale 1:10,000 map sheet corresponds to 5 x 5 kilometers in nature).

Starting with the 3rd cycle of aerial photography, orthophoto maps in Latvia are prepared in the Latvian coordinate system LKS-92 TM according to the division of TKS-93 map sheets (scale 1:5,000 map sheet corresponds to 2.5 x 2.5 kilometers in nature).

Orthophoto maps on a scale of 1:2,000 (in some places - on a scale of 1:1000) are available in TIFF format with reference to the LKS-92 TM coordinate system.

All orthophoto maps prepared by LGIA can also be prepared in MrSID format upon request.

Orthophoto maps are also available as a WMS service.

Orthophoto maps up to and including cycle 6 are available in the form of Open Data.

Orthophoto cards can be requested by sending a request to E-applications.
